Dr. Peterson, born in Las Vegas, graduated from Bonanza High School and attended UNLV achieving a degree in Biology. He furthered his professional goal by attending the Southern California College of Optometry (now Marshall B. Ketchum University) to receive his doctorate in Optometry. His research during optometry school focused on the relationship between lens blur and visual acuity. He returned to Las Vegas in 2005 beginning his own practice called Family Focused Eyecare. He owned the practice from 2005 until 2020 when he closed it to work full time at Nellis AFB. Dr. Peterson is sad he had to close the practice and misses seeing patients there. He is working hard to find a suitable doctor to take over that practice.
Professionally, Dr. Peterson has always a strong desire to constantly improve his skills and work for the benefit of his patients. Shortly after starting his company he was able to secure a position at the Paiute Health clinic serving the Native American population where he helped manage many patients with diabetes. He provided free eye care for patients attending the substance abuse program directed by the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. He also spent 4 years working with Dr. Peter DeBry at NV Eye Surgery where he improved his skills in dry eye therapy, cataract surgery post operative care, and glaucoma management. It has brought him great pleasure and incomparable clinical experience to be a part of that team. He is truly grateful and is a great benefit to those patients he sees.
Dr. Peterson is married to his wife, Kimberly, and they are blessed with three children. His family is his proudest achievement. He is active in his church and served a two year mission to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Peterson has participated on the Board of Directors of the Nevada Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and continues to volunteer for them for different events, including fund raising. He has raised over $10,000 to aid in the research to find a cure for the disease. Over the last years he has found a passion for endurance sports including running and biking. He has finished half marathons, the St. George marathon, the Las Vegas Ragnar, and the St. George Half Ironman.
